As every year, I tried to select the best street photos I took in 2023. Just pure street photography, not Raindrop Blues nor Urban Melodies. I chose the photos according to my personal taste, so I’m not really sure about my selection (I’m not a great editor of myself!). But it’s ok, here is the gallery and I hope you will enjoy it!
I wish you the best for 2024 and I hope you can achieve all your good resolutions. Thanks for being here.
1 January: First day of the year at the Botanical Garden of Rome. Nothing great, but it was nice to see people playing with these green lights.
11 January: Finally Ostiense Station reopened (and it looks like a spaceship).
5 February: Chinese New Year’s Day. A beautiful event in Roman Chinatown. I liked to see this boy peeping the show behind a curtain.
14 February: Valentine’s Day in Trastevere, Roma. I’d like to find this couple and give them this picture!
18 February: Traditional carnival parade through the streets of my neighborhood, Garbatella.
18 February: Woman in yellow on Via Nazionale, Roma.
15 March: Street scene on a bus, in Via delle Medaglie d’Oro, Roma.
25 March: In Napoli, where the football team was about to win the Italian Serie A after 33 years the last winning.
4 April: The very first lesson of my Street Photography Workshop. I was teaching to play with urban statue, monuments and people. Lucky shot to explain that!
17 April: A girl jumping into a fountain in Rione Monti, Roma.
25 April: In Italy in this day we celebrate the liberation from nazifascism. My favorite day of the year.
9 May: Early walk in Piazza Fontana di Trevi to create a commissioned artwork. In the meanwhile, I took some street photo too!
16 May: Rome is that city where, if you want to take photos to tell where you live, you must put art in it!
10 June: Pride parade in Rome.
3 July: In Monopoli for my summer holidays. This boy made me think about Billy Elliot!
16 July: Crazy diving in Polignano a Mare.
27 July: When I am in Monopoli I like to tell a bit how is daily life in this city. It’s summer and two old ladies are looking at obituaries.
8 August: Just a fisherman, in Monopoli again. I like that the cranes and the fishing rod are in the same position.
12 August: Two tourists enjoying sunset in Portavecchia, Monopoli.
14 August: Beautiful fireworks to celebrate Madonna Day in Monopoli.
17 August: If you walk in Bari Vecchia (the old city of Bari), you can easily meet women preparing orecchiette (the typical kind of pasta of this region).
18 August: A light had fallen in the underpass of the Polignano a Mare station. A good opportunity for a shot different than usual.
27 August: Back in Roma.
28 August: A sudden rain in Piazza Navona.
31 August: Another lessons for my workshop: stay close to the subjects!
2 October: Candid street photo of a street photographer (Stefano Mirabella) taking street photos (it made me think about the movie Inception)!
2 October: In Termini Station to teach how to do a reportage to my student.
7 October: Just the window of my room. Inspired by Italian photographer Luigi Ghirri.
14 October: Genova. I tried to change the perspective to make the photo less banal. I liked the contrast between the static nature of the man sitting on the left and the dynamism of the colors that seem to slip out of the image.
15 October: Amazing dog in Genova. I love that look!
27 October: When you are in a subway and see this scene, it’s impossible to leave your camera in your pocket!
29 November: Rome is the cure for melancholy.
4 December: Back in Monopoli for some days. In winter it’s very different.
4 December: Winter sea, 10 minutes walking from my place, is something that I really miss when I am in Roma.
10 December: As I come back in Roma, I have to come back to Colosseo.
30 December: Last photo of 2023. In Sicily, by night, on the ferry that crosses the Strait of Messina.
Wonderful examples of how the definition of street photography can be as broad as the urban world! Happy New Year
